Life Care Plan
If you have a child with Cerebral Palsy, a Life Care Plan is an important tool for you if your child will require assistance their entire life. A Life Care Plan will map out the care and resources needed for your child. When a family receives a verdict or settlement for birth injuries the judge is going to ask for a Life Care Plan. This makes sure that the settlement/verdict money is used for the child's care for everyday needs like diapers to long term needs like education and major surgeries. The Plan review the medical and financial aspects of your child's situations and then create a plan that takes into account the costs and frequency of needed services and equipment.
This Plan can then be used to help your child, your family, doctors, other healthcare providers, attorneys, insurance claims professionals, and others to make sure that the child has the best care available to them with the resources that are available to them for their lifetime.
The person who creates a Life Care Plan is called a Certified Life Care Planner. This person needs to be knowledgeable about the injury, the long term effects of the injury and the financial situation of the patient. They also need to know about the medical field and the limitations of the law. A Life Care Planner should work with the patient's healthcare providers, such as doctors, nurses and rehab specialists, to make a plan that is specific to your child so that his or her needs are met.
